Antivirus software to blame for iPlayer Download application error, stopping users from opening or updating the feature.
According to the BBC, AVG and other antivirus software have incorrectly identified the app as a threat, stopping users in their tracks.
The BBC iPlayer Downloads app for PCs allows users to watch their favourite shows anywhere. Under normal circumstances, once users have selected programmes to download from the iPlayer, iPlayer Downloads will show a library containing these programmes. They can then be watched offline or taken abroad.
The BBC says once the affected antivirus software has been updated, the application should work normally. It’s urging users to update the antivirus database and app to the latest version. In the meantime, users can also exclude iPlayer Downloads from the antivirus software. AVG has details of how to do this on its support website.
The BBC iPlayer has recently been affected by a number of gremlins affecting various users. Last week, the BBC identified problems with Chromecast and Samsung TVs. Google and Samsung were expected to issue a fix in due course.
