The error code 02050 is appearing on some TV devices as affected viewers struggle to access the BBC iPlayer.
- Error means viewers can’t access programmes.
- BBC thinks the problem is firmware related and has given advice to viewers on a possible fix.
The BBC iPlayer has stopped working on some TVs after changes in the background. For some viewers, error 02050 appears when they try to access the BBC iPlayer.
The BBC says it believes the problem is firmware related. Viewers with the problem are advised to check for an update in the settings menu. Depending on device, this may be labelled ‘software update’ or ‘firmware update’. Viewers who are unsure should check with their TV’s manufacturer.
A firmware update should restore access to the BBC iPlayer. But the BBC says that if you’re already using the latest firmware available on the TV (i.e. there are no updates available), it is currently gathering information from viewers so it can approach the TV manufacturers. Viewers can submit details including the make and model of the TV via the BBC iPlayer Help form.
For other problems accessing the BBC iPlayer, the BBC has published a general troubleshooting guide. The guide takes users through four steps to rule out the majority of day-to-day issues with the BBC iPlayer. Additional steps relate to your home broadband internet network. In most cases, the problem can be traced to an issue with your TV/other type of streaming device or home wi-fi/broadband configuration.
