Sky News will launch a new look breakfast show this month, followed by the arrival of a new international news hour each evening.
- Kay Burley, Wilfred Frost, Gareth Barlow and Mhari Aurora becomes the faces of the new four hour long breakfast show from 15th January.
- Gareth Barlow joins Sky after 10 year stint at BBC, most recently presenting bulletins on the newly merged BBC News channel.
- New international news programme with ex-BBC presenter Yalda Hakim will launch a week later.
Gareth Barlow will introduce viewers to the new look Sky News Breakfast programme on Monday 15th January 2024, as the show extends to four hours and introduces new faces alongside Sky News stalwart Kay Burley.
Burley will join the programme from 7am onwards, conducting the biggest interviews of the day. Wilfred Frost will bring viewers previews of the day’s news agenda from the newsroom. Mhari Aurora will report on the latest political happenings. Meanwhile, from Friday to Sunday, Anna Jones joins the Breakfast team, with Jacquie Beltrao covering weekend sports.
Sky News Breakfast will initially broadcast from its new Westminster newsroom. However, later this year, the show will move to a new studio.
New international news programme
A week later, evenings will look different with the arrival of The World. It’s a new hour long international news programme fronted by Yalda Hakim, her first regular show on Sky News coming just over three months after her final BBC News TV programme.
The World will air Monday-Thursday at 9pm with in-depth reporting and analysis of international events.
It’s the final segment of a new look evening schedule that’s been phased in on Sky News over the past year.
This includes an hour of politics at 7pm, UK news at 8pm and the broadcaster’s main news and press preview from 10pm.
Its news focused schedule takes advantage of the BBC’s decision to reduce UK-specific output on its news channel and sets Sky News apart from rivals carrying opinionated talk shows. Rivals include TalkTV, owned by Sky’s former boss, Rupert Murdoch. Sky News is now part of Comcast.
Corporate comment
David Rhodes, executive chairman for Sky News Group, said:
“We’re really pleased to present Breakfast earlier each morning – and delighted to welcome Gareth Barlow to our team.
