The SPFL has agreed to make changes to its broadcast deals with Sky Sports and Premier Sports starting from the new season.
- More relegation battles will be televised on Premier Sports as a result of the deal.
A broadcast rights agreement only signed last year has been reopened to allow Premier Sports to cover more games.
The SPFL signed a new five year deal with Premier Sports and Sky Sports in 2024. This allowed Premier Sports to screen 20 live William Hill Premiership games per season to viewers across the UK and Ireland.
However, the deal limited Premier Sport’s live quota games to pre-split games. Following talks involving all parties, Premier Sports will be allowed to screen two post-split games per season.
For those unfamiliar with the arrangement, the Scottish Premiership splits in half after the twelve clubs have played each other three times. The top six sides play each other once more, while the bottom six sides also play each other.
The amended TV deal means Premier Sports can cover two of the post-split bottom side games. This will give Premier Sports the rights to show a total of 22 live SPFL games a season.
The post-split bottom side games are of interest to football fans as they determine who gets relegated out of the league at the end of the season.
Sky Sports will continue to broadcast the majority of televised SPFL games live.
