Ahead of January’s standard definition switch-off, ITV is now broadcasting the full complement of its ITV1 regions in HD.

Hot on the heals of announcements by the BBC and ITV regarding the end of standard definition (SD) TV broadcasts on satellite, Sky has this week completed a major milestone.

A new agreement between UKTV and satellite operator SES will ensure Sky and Freesat viewers in the UK and Ireland will continue to be able to access a number of channels until the end of the decade.

For the first time in the UK and Ireland, sports broadcaster DAZN will offer a regular, linear TV channel on a major TV platform.

Satellite viewers will continue to be able to watch QVC in the UK and Ireland, after a multi-year contract renewal was signed between QVC and satellite operator SES.

For the first time, three of Sky’s own-brand channels are only available to viewers in high definition, 16 years after the pay TV company first launched its HD service.
