Samsung’s channel expansion now includes a channel that Sky viewers have to pay to watch, as big name broadcasters make the move to Samsung’s TV Plus streaming channel service.
- NBC News Now and France 24 FAST among recent additions
- It follows the launch of four UKTV channels last month
- TV Plus channels available for free on Samsung Smart TVs, mobiles and tablets
NBC News Now continues its expansion across various UK platforms. After launching on Sky and Virgin Media as an encrypted subscription channel, it was recently added to TV Plus where it can be streamed for free, in addition to YouTube.
Last month, we reported on the arrival of four new UKTV channels, providing viewers with access to curated content from Dave, Drama, W and Yesterday. DAZN also launched two specialist channels on the platform. Golf fans also now have access to a PGA Tour channel. Narrative Entertainment has also boosted its children’s channel portfolio on TV Plus.
See below for a full list of channels currently available on Samsung TV Plus, which is available on all recent Samsung TVs, mobiles and tablets.
▶ While some channels, like UKTV Uncovered, recycle content previously shown on traditional channels, the new services are not dissimilar to the early days of Freeview, when broadcasters created free-to-air services that recycled content from pay TV. In time, these free-to-air services morphed into premium destinations, with their own original content.
Commenting for the first time on the new additions, Jennifer Batty, Head of Content Acquisition, Samsung TV Plus Europe, said:
“Samsung is delighted to be adding DAZN, PGA TOUR, NBC News Now and UKTV Play channels to our ever-expanding roster of sports and entertainment content on Samsung TV Plus. If young fans were glued to the edge of their seats for the World Cup Final, the new DAZN Women’s Football channel will continue to inspire the next generation of female players.”
Samsung TV Plus channels in the UK
If your Samsung TV is in Freesat mode, you may need to switch over to terrestrial (DTV) mode for these channels to appear.
Channel availability and channel numbers may change at no notice. Samsung may add channels in the 4001-4009 range on a temporary basis to promote a service.
