WBD bins another sports app

18 November 2023

GCN+, a streaming hub for cycling fans is closing on 19th December, as owner WBD consolidates streaming services.

  • GCN+ provided live race coverage
  • Customer being invited to move across to Discovery+

Global Cycling Network or GCN has confirmed its streaming service GCN+ is closing after two years, becoming the latest casualty of the merger of Warner Bros and Discovery to create WBD.

WBD inherited a number of smaller streaming services which it is trying to consolidate in to one destination.

For GCN+ subscribers, the move means that the service will end just before Christmas. Users wanting continued access to extra cycling content and live race coverage will need to move across to Discovery+ in the UK and Ireland.

The news comes almost exactly a year after Golf TV announced its closure. Like GCN, users were directed to Discovery+.

GCN statement about the closing of GCN+

“This decision comes from our parent company Warner Bros. Discovery (WBD) and is driven by its global strategy to consolidate its streaming services, and to offer content in fewer places, making it easier for customers to access and discover more content. In Europe, GCN+ subscribers will now have the option to subscribe to access Discovery+, Eurosport or Eurosport Extra, where you can continue to watch live cycling. In markets outside of Europe, WBD is reviewing how content is delivered to its fans.”

Current users can delete the app after 19th December.

What happens to subscriptions?

Customers will receive refunds for any time remaining on their subscription.

GCN has posted further answers to questions raised by customers on a dedicated support page.

However, the GCN website will continue as a resource for the cycling community beyond 19th December 2023. Additionally, GCN+ logins can still be used on the remaining GCN website.
