EarthX has been pulled from Sky, days after the channel abruptly ceased broadcasting on Freeview.
- Channel only launched in 2022
- No formal announcement of its demise, leaving viewers in the dark
- Freeview slot was taken over by shopping channel.
EarthX began broadcasting on Sky and Freeview on 25th August 2022, as part of a global rollout of the channel focused on environmental matters.
It then continued its rollout in various countries around the world in 2023.
Sky satellite viewers lost access to the channel, which was broadcasting on channel 180 on Thursday morning.
Freeview viewers lost access to the channel at the beginning of June, with an on-screen slate confirming the channel was not available. The channel’s Freeview capacity was acquired by shopping channel Seen On TV, which launched across the UK on Wednesday. The takeover resulted in some viewers seeing Seen On TV on Earthx’s old channel slot, with teleshopping appearing alongside a TV guide that still listed Earthx TV’s schedule.
Back in April, EarthX announced a new deal with Dailymotion to bring global viewers online access to the channel’s content. When RXTV checked on Thursday, the content had also disappeared without warning.
EarthxTV was launched from Dallas, USA as a channel committed to promoting conservation and sustainability. The channel was distributed in the UK by Arqiva.
