EarthxTV is removed from the platform after recently ceasing broadcasts on channel 79, while That’s TV makes a number of surprise moves. Two new streaming services join.
- Freeview’s monthly update moved a week earlier than normal to avoid retune events during major sports and political events.
- Children’s channel POP Up and Extreme Channel stream on to Freeview
Freeview viewers are once again required to update their TV guide to ensure they have access to all currently available channels with a number of broadcasters making changes.
Effective from lunchtime, 12th June 2024, EarthxTV has been formally removed from the platform, days after viewers reported seeing a blank screen on the channel.
Meanwhile, That’s Media, operator of the That’s TV stations has conducted a reshuffle of its channels as it prepares to launch new channel That’s Memories on 71. Further details about the new channel haven’t yet been released, but the service is launching on Freeview capacity that would normally have been assigned to Channel 4.
Streaming service TV Extra has also closed. It was previously on channel 291.
Streaming launches
- EXTREME – The extreme sports and lifestyle channel that was available on Sky until the end of 2015 makes its debut on Freeview channel 295.
- POP Up – the new streaming children’s channel from Narrative Entertainment arrives on channel 207, forcing Tiny POP to move to channel 208. The arrival of POP Up on Freeview’s streaming service is a surprise. Only a fortnight ago, Narrative Entertainment would only confirm to RXTV that the channel would launch on Samsung TV Plus, LG Channels, Netgem and Plex.
That’s a Mess Up
That’s Media has reshuffled some of its channels around on Freeview, with new channel numbers for some services.
Music channel That’s 60s has moved to channel 75. And That’s 90s on channel 76 has been replaced by That’s Dance, at least nominally. In reality, viewers tuning in to the channel are currently seeing a still image showing the That’s 90s logo, while That’s Dance broadcasts on Sky, but is still labelled That’s 90s.
Seen On TV, which actually launches more widely on channel 94, is currently still showing the EPG of EarthxTV from whom they have acquired their Freeview capacity.
This month’s Freeview update was a week earlier than normal. The majority of updates occur on the third Wednesday of a month. However, the digital terrestrial television platform traditionally avoids making big updates during major sports and news events.
