Formerly available on Virgin Media and Sky Q, eSports gaming channel GINX has been allocated a slot on Freeview.
- Latest new hybrid streaming channel to join Freeview
- To be available on compatible connected Freeview Play TVs
A placeholder for GINX, the eSports gaming channel, has been added to Freeview in this month’s Freeview channel update.
The impending launch comes just over a year after the channel ceased broadcasting on satellite, effectively becoming streaming only via platforms including Sky Stream, Twitch and YouTube.
Once live, GINX will stream via channel 296 on compatible Freeview Play devices. On Freely TVs connected to an aerial, GINX will appear on channel 585.
- As a hybrid streaming channel, you must have your TV aerial connected and able to receive the full set of Freeview channels.
Don’t remember the channel number yet…
However, GINX’s current Freeview channel number is only likely to be temporary. Everyone TV, the company that manages the Freeview service, has announced that hybrid streaming channels will shuffle up in the coming weeks. That means GINX plus all other channels between Freeview channels 263-296 will be moving soon.
Last week, Everyone TV wrote to all affected broadcasters giving them two weeks to respond to its plans. It then intends to schedule the reshuffle at one of the next Freeview monthly updates.
