Rewind TV announces Freeview change

11 June 2025

Classic television channel Rewind TV is making an important change to its Freeview service on Wednesday 18 June.

  • New channel number to help more viewers ‘rediscover TV they grew up with’.
  • Will sit alongside Talking Pictures, creating a destination for archive and heritage TV.

Rewind TV has confirmed it’s moving on Freeview for the second time this year. It’s a change the channel says will help viewers rediscover the programmes they grew up with.

As part of the next monthly Freeview channel update at midday on Wednesday 18th June, Rewind TV will move to channel 81 from its current home on 92.

Jonathan Moore, co-founder of Rewind TV says the new channel number will help provide some order in the Freeview channel guide:

“We believe the Freeview EPG has been cluttered for too long, with shopping and religious channels mixed in among entertainment. We’re doing our bit to fix that by placing ourselves nearer to channels that make sense for our audience.

The move means the classic entertainment channel will sit alongside Talking Pictures and PBS America on the Freeview channel list. Rewind TV says the new channel placement creates a natural hub for archive and heritage programming – a curated corner of the Freeview guide for audiences who love vintage drama, iconic films, and timeless documentaries.

Since launching on the Freeview platform last year (first on channel 95, moving to 92 in March), Rewind TV has become a favourite for audiences looking to reconnect with the programmes they grew up with. Content provided on the channel includes gripping serials and nostalgic sitcoms to lost treasures and rarely seen footage from the television vaults. Alongside entertainment, the channel has showcased factual and music programming.

Rewind TV’s current line-up includes classic entertainment shows Fantasy Island, In Loving Memory, Please Sir!, The Monkees and Married… With Children.

Retuning Freeview

  • Depending on your TV model, you may need to retune after midday on Wednesday 18 June. Channel 81 is currently used by placeholder channel Blaze+1.
  • Freeview has detailed information on its website about how to retune your TV.
  • Availability on Sky is unaffected. Sky satellite users (Sky Q/Sky+HD) can continue watching on channel 182.

Full statement from Rewind TV regarding the Freeview change:

Jonathan Moore, co-founder of Rewind TV, says:

“Moving to channel 81 is more than just a number change – it’s a statement about the kind of company we keep. Talking Pictures has done a phenomenal job showing the enduring power of classic film and television, and we’re thrilled to be part of what viewers increasingly see as a go-to collection for quality archival content. We believe in preserving the past and
celebrating the television that helped shape generations. This new slot puts us right where we belong – alongside those who share our passion.”

“This isn’t just about nostalgia – it’s about access, relevance, and respect for storytelling that still resonates today. We’re not just looking back – we’re shining a light on what made these programmes so special and why they still matter. We believe the Freeview EPG has been cluttered for too long, with shopping and religious channels mixed in among entertainment. We’re doing our bit to fix that by placing ourselves nearer to channels that make sense for our audience.”
